Fertility after a hormonal IUS

Using a hormonal IUS has no effect on your later fertility.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve used the IUS. After removal, you have the same probability of becoming pregnant as if you had not used hormonal contraception. For example, women who had a copper IUD become pregnant at the same frequency and speed as women who with an IUS.

However, fertility generally decreases slightly with increasing age. For example, a 35-year old woman won’t become pregnant as quickly as when she was 20. Therefore, in some cases it may take longer for a woman to become pregnant after discontinuing an effective contraceptive method. It is also important to remember that about 10% of all couples are infertile. However, this is independent of whether or which contraceptive methods have ever been used.
