The menstrual cycle with a hormonal IUS

The hormonal IUS has very little influence on the natural cycle – ovulation continues to take place. The IUS causes the uterine lining to build up only weakly during the monthly cycle. For most women, this makes their period shorter, weaker, and less painful. After one year of use, a light bleeding occurs on average just 1-2 days per month. One in five users has no bleeding at all after one year of use. This is not a sign of pregnancy, but is due to the direct hormonal effect on the uterine lining. From a medical point of view, the absence of menstruation is completely harmless and can be compared with the (preferable) absence of blood during lactation.
