How often to check the hormonal IUS

You should have the correct position of your IUS checked by your specialist doctor using ultrasound at three points: immediately after inserting the IUS, after your first menstruation, and then every 6-12 months.

Have your doctor show you the IUS and the return thread before insertion. During the first few months, at the end of each menstruation, use your middle finger to feel the IUS thread at the cervix. If you can’t feel the thread, it could mean that it’s moved into the uterine cavity, but it can also mean that the IUS has been expelled or that you are pregnant.

If this happens, you should consult your doctor, who will clarify the situation with an ultrasound.
